Changing Our Name to LaunchBay (from Motion.io)
By
Zack Garbow

If you’ve landed here it’s because you searched for Motion.io. Welcome, you're in the right place! At the end of 2025 we changed our name, so Motion.io is now LaunchBay. Same product, same team, same mission. Just a name that finally fits.
Here's the story of how we got there.
The problem with Motion
Back in 2025, we ran into two problems with our name, Motion.
First: there are too many "Motion"s. Motion design tools, motion capture companies, a project management app, an ads management tool. We were competing for attention with half the internet every time someone typed our name into a search bar or tried to remember it after a demo call.
Second, and more important: Motion didn't say anything about what we actually do. It was a name about movement abstractly, which was appropriate, but it did not convey a specific problem we solved or the people we solve it for. A name should do some of the selling for you.
Ours wasn't pulling its weight (though we did love the logo).

We decided we needed something that spoke more distinctly to who we serve (software companies, consultants, and agencies) and what we actually deliver: bringing new customers successfully to launch.
Finding the needle in the haystack
So we started the search. And when we say we evaluated names, we mean it. We went through literally thousands of candidates, checking domain registries for availability, running them past each other, sitting with them for a few days to see if they'd stick.
The pattern repeated more than once: get excited about a name in the morning, hate it by evening. Naming a company is a strange kind of journey. A word can sound perfect at 9am and slightly ridiculous by 6pm, once you've said it out loud a dozen times and pictured it on a homepage.
Then we came across one that landed differently. We sat on it overnight, the same way we'd sat on (and rejected) plenty of others. But this time, when we came back to it in the morning, it still felt right. That had never happened before.
More telling than any of our own reactions: it was the first name all three of us founders were genuinely excited about, at the same time, without anyone talking each other into it.
You already know where this is going. The name was LaunchBay.
Why LaunchBay
A few things made this name click:
- It says what we do. The name touches directly on our goal of helping teams launch their customers successfully, without the back-and-forth chaos that usually comes with onboarding.
- It was actually unique. Our search turned up almost no prior usage, with one exception being a since-shut-down Star Wars ride at Disney, which we're happy to share a name with.
- We got the .com. After hundreds of names that were clever but already taken, landing on one that was distinctive, on-brand, and available as launchbay.com felt like a small miracle.
- It's short and memorable. Two syllables, easy to say, easy to spell, easy to remember after you hear it once.
What's changed since the name change
Since changing the name, seemingly our entire product has been revamped and improved. We've added LaunchAI to automate large chunks of your daily customer work, added MCP support, introduced meetings functionality, integrated with HubSpot, Calendly, and Slack, redesigned the Client Portal, improved automations, and basically meaningfully revamped every part of the product.

So if you've found this page because you were searching for Motion, I'm happy you found us and I'm confident the product you'll try as LaunchBay is now better in every way (including the name).
